Teachers on the Estuary (TOTE): Science and Social Emotional Learning
This course is designed with secondary teachers in mind, but is open to all teachers interested in the topics.

Science-informed environmental literacy programming and Meaningful Watershed Education Experiences make multi-disciplinary learning come alive and meaningfully supports social and emotional learning and wellness for both students and teachers. During this dynamic five-day program, you will be joining a caring group of partners to explore the Chesapeake Bay's cultural coastal habitats and iconic communities by practicing mindful engagement with the environment and conducting field investigations with local scientists, community leaders, and educators from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and Maryland's Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. This course is designed to model a Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience through participant-driven field experiences, authentic research and the celebration of our coming together as a community of educators in an immersive, joyful and supportive environment. Participants will be encouraged to complete the MWEE101 online course prior to the start of the in-person course. This will allow us to better utilize our time together.

Length & Location: Five consecutive days of field-based, whole-group, outdoor investigations at Karen Noonan Environmental Education Center for a 5-day, 4-night dormitory-style experience.
