Our Neighborhood, Our Watershed: Montgomery County
Open to all Montgomery County elemntary and middle school teachers.

How can learning more about the Earth’s “One Well” connect you to our Chesapeake Bay? Dive into your watershed with the Lathrop E. Smith Environmental Education Center for a unique professional learning opportunity that starts with 2 days exploring in and around Montgomery County and then travels down Maryland’s eastern shore to one of CBF’s residential island education centers where we will fully immerse in the sights and sounds of the Chesapeake Bay. Learn with your colleagues how you can make choices with your students that help conserve and protect water.

Length & Location: Five consecutive days of field-based, whole-group, outdoor investigations: Monday and Tuesday in the Montgomery County area, Wednesday through Friday at our Port Isobel Island Education Center for a 3-day, 2-night dormitory-style experience.
Cost: $50, Reduced cost due to funding from HHMI.
Credit: Successful completion of the course and final project will qualify MCPS Teachers for 3 MSDE Continuing Professional Development Credits (#21-66-01R). This course is eligible for graduate credit from Mary Baldwin University. For more information visit the Professional Learning Credits page.
Orientation Date: Virutal orientation meetings are at 7:00 p.m. on May 25th, June 22nd, or July 13th. Choose one of the virtual meetings prior to your course.

COVID Policy: All participants of multi-day experiences are required to be fully up to date on COVID vaccinations or have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of in person programing start. All vaccinated participants are required to take a rapid covid test 48 Hours prior to the start of in person programing. Attend only if negative.
